Unveiled: The Modern Leadership Mantra

What do you think is the true essence of “Great Leadership?” It is undoubtedly – Leading Innovation.
A survey conducted by Linda Hill, an American Economist, Business Professor at Harvard Business School suggests that – If we want to build an innovative organization, we must unlearn our conventional notions of leadership time and again.
Leading Innovation is not just creating a vision and inspiring others to execute it, but there is so much more to it.
Let’s look at an example!
Computer generated movies are mainstream today, but it took Edwin Catmull, founder, and CEO of Pixar and his colleagues about 20 years in order to create a full-length computer generated movie called – Ratatouille.
Are these computer generated movies a result of an individual genius? No! But rather, collaborative efforts of 250 people and about 4-5 years which go into making these computer generated Pixar movies.
The core crux of innovation is to unleash the hidden potential of your peer group and harness it in the best possible manner. The key to innovation is – collaborative problem solving, usually amongst people who have a different point of view.
When we look at why Pixar is able to do what it does, we find the answer, that lies in these three ingenious capabilities:
Hence, Leading Innovation is about creating a space where people are willing to work in a non-competitive yet in a collaborative manner. So the Modern Leadership Mantra is – Competition is dead. Collaboration is the key!
